Summer 2011

Getting together with friends for barbeques, long morning walks to enjoy our country living make summers enjoyable.

With these glorious days I find it difficult to stay in my studio and will find excuses to go for a drive to search for new material to paint. Yesterday I drove to the village of Delta to see once more the Delta Mill and then thru the back roads winding my way home. These short drives often give me inspirations to paint.

Robere and I have been socially busy attending weddings, birthday celebrations and more.
We hosted the Korean veterans BBQ here at the house, which was well attended and hope to be able to do this again next year. Also in June, daughter, Brenda, was married here in the garden setting, the weather was perfect and it was a lovely wedding.

Our dogs keep Robere busy, Bogie, the labradoodle, is now a child therapy dog and visits a school to help children develop their reading skills by reading out loud to him. Bogie and Robere are still visiting the hospital every Tuesday to bring smiles to the patients as well as hospital workers. You can Google Bogie the READ dog and get more information about him. Raven, our Rottweiler, hasn’t had much fun this summer she torn her cruicate ligament and required two operations to repair it. This happened early in the summer so it has been almost 18 weeks of no running, no stairs, no jumping, only leash walks. Robere  now takes her swimming daily to help build her muscle.
 Back to art news……
I have painted a few more semi abstract paintings of Paris, and  also a couple of large  new mill paintings  which will be on display  in my September Show here at the house.. The September Show will run  from the 23rd to the 26th that is Thursday thru Sunday.

Summer 2009-08-13

This has been a perfect summer for growing. Flower gardens have been spectacular. The water is high and clear in our beautiful Ontario lakes and the nights have been cool and perfect for sleeping.

I have enjoyed painting the gardens and landscapes and I’ve continued my more imaginative art. We are exhibiting cityscapes of Paris , Venice , Canada and more. These are positive dramatic images that are boldly stylized which I call semi-abstract.

These new works will be in my August Show at the studio/gallery Friday, Saturday & Sunday August 28, 29 , & 30th Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spring 2009

Robere and I stayed in Kingston all winter I, mostly in my studio and painted and Robere was busy with the dogs. Raven enjoys her  agility classes and Bogie loves to meet people.  He is now a St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog and visits the residents on Connell 4 at the Kingston General Hospital every Tuesday.

As I said, I stayed in my studio and painted. It seems to be as the older I get the more I am driven to paint and produce great pieces of art.

We are getting the Spring Show ready to hang. The show opens on April 25 and runs to May 3. As I show my new works to friends they have responded favourably. Some are thrilled with my semi abstract paintings of Venice and Paris while others have only eyes for my more tradional scenes of Ontario heritage homes, mills and landscapes.  My interpretations of the Cotswolds are always admired.

Bogie our friendly labradoodle is in my latest rendition of the classic Stepping Stone Inn in Westport new Limited Edition prints are available of this painting.

This year is the 100 anniversary of the O.P.P. To honour them I have painted SUCCESS. This is a moonlit scene with eleven officers and a Service Dog named Dutchess. The original is 26” x 39” and there are limited editions available. Look on the Police Page for this print plus another new one titled An O.P.P.  Cruiser 2009

Our Spring Show & Exhibition is early this year Saturday & Sunday April 25 & 26 and the following weekend Saturday & Sunday May 2nd & May 3rd.  Hours 10 to 4

Thought I had better let you know what we have been doing since the summer.

Mostly I have been painting.

To give back to the art world I have been teaching at the Kingston School of Art. My last class for the  year is Sunday, November 30. I donate my time and teaching abilities to the school, as money is hard to get from the local government for the arts. I expect to hold a weekend session at the school in the spring.

Every now and then we artists change direction and that is what happened to me these past few months. I have completed a series of semi abstract oil paintings of Paris, Brussels, Venice Old Montreal and even Kingston.  These paintings have been well received and the limited edition prints of Pont Neuf, Paris and Venice Dawn are the most popular.

The Great Wall of China is my most recent and not too many people have seen it as only yesterday I framed it and hung it at the front entrance. Limited Edition prints will be available in December.  All our Limited Edition giclee type prints are limited to only 60 worldwide which makes them truly limited.

As everyone else we have the usual home improvements requirements and have had workman here most of the fall making the repairs to decks, windows, etc. All are completed now so the house is more peaceful.

Robere (my wife) is still enjoying the agility classes with both our dogs. Raven our 4-year Rottweiler excels in agility and Bogie our 20-month-old labradoodle loves the jumping and has fun. He will be back in class in January.

In October Robere took Bogie to Belleville chapter of St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog  program to have him tested. He passed with flying colours and is now a certified St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog and will be visiting patients in Kingston General Hospital every Monday morning.

Summer Highlights

We had an excellent show in August at Gallery -on– the Lake in Buckhorn, Ontario. This gallery is on the shores of the lake and features many artists often having over 2000 pieces of art to view.

Robere thought she would like to stay home for a change this summer and so we did.

The gardens and dogs kept her busy and I was able to paint on the rainy days.

I completed a special painting for the OPP Auxiliary’s 50th Anniversay, which isn’t until 2010. The print was so appealing that the OPP Auxiliary couldn’t wait to show it off and so was unveiled the weekend of September 12 and was immediately a hit with the auxiliary.

Bogie, our labradoodle is in this painting, lying on the dock.

Our house is now 30 years old and so this summer many workmen were around repairing, chimneys, residing a couple of buildings, new shingles on the studio etc.

We have rented space at the Cataraqui Shopping Centre in Kingston for the weekend of Thanksgiving, just Thursday, Friday, & Saturday, Oct 9,10, & 11 this means that on Sunday we can still have our Turkey dinner with family and friends. Then the following Friday and Saturday, that is Oct. 17th & 18th, we are having our Fall Open House to show Jim’s latest paintings. Hours from 1p.m. to 5p.m.

Visiting here you will have some appreciation of this peaceful, inspiring place. Living here is truly uplifting, tranquil and inspiring. I hope living withy art brings you some of the peace I feel.
